This old Chinese proverb puts 命 (destiny) and 運 (luck cycles) above everything else. That is what Bazi reads, and it is where every serious reading should begin.
What is Bazi
Bazi, or Four Pillars of Destiny, uses your date and time of birth to map the elemental forces that shape your personality, your decisions and the cycles of your life.
It is not fortune-telling. It is a framework for understanding why some seasons of your life feel effortless, and others feel like you are pushing against something invisible.
Each pillar is a pair of characters for the year, month, day and hour you were born. The day’s top character is your Day Master, the element that stands for you. Everything else in the chart is read against it: which elements feed it, which drain it, and which ten-year luck pillar you are walking through right now.
The chart I read first
My first reading was at about ten. It said I was built for business, which turned out to be true. It also told me which element to avoid, and I took that seriously for most of my life.
When I finally studied Bazi properly, I found the advice was backwards. The element I had avoided for two decades was the one my chart needed, and my wife brought it into my life without either of us planning it.
